5K....that's a wrap!

Name: Emily
Hobbies: Running, Jogging, Sprinting, Buying Workout clothes, Making AMAZING music mixes to run to.
Recent Accomplishments: Running First 5K!!!!

THAT'S RIGHT. I did it! I ran my first 5K today. So...here are some pictures to prove it.....

My sister made this sign. My part says "158 pounds down" and my sister's side says "baby weight going." This was our motivation to keep going!

So at 4:01 am I woke up to begin getting ready for our race. I woke up to the sound of my mom singing the Rocky theme song...it was pretty great! I got dressed, made my protein shake and ate my protein bar. Did my hair and was off to be in San Diego and race by 7 am.

As number 677, I was ready set! I got that shirt from this new company. If I wore it, I could be entered into a contest to win a $250 spa package. Details on how you can help me win this in the future:)

So, at 6:30 am, we arrived in San Diego. My sister, Heather, her husband Ryan, and myself. Still dark outside, we were cold and tired already, but amped to start! We attempted to use the restroom before we went, but that was a nightmare and a 1/2 with the line 50 women long. The men's....of course no wait. Lesson Learned! Good thing we stopped at McDonalds to go to the bathroom.

My sis and I ran into some of my sorority sisters who were running too! Venetian and Corvette (as I call them) are the girls on the left and they were running the 15K. Myself, Kix and my sister all were running the 5k. So we see Venetian and Corvette off and our race was about to begin.

I must admit, I was pretty nervous. All I knew is that I could do it and, if it killed me, I was going to run the whole thing. My goal was to do it in under 36 minutes...which would be a 12 minute mile. If you can see in this picture I am right in the middle of the pack. I was pretty claustrophobic, so I decided in the beginning to cut over to the left and run in the grass. As soon as I did this, I felt like I just took off! It was so crazy, but I was passing people left and right.

Here is a closer look at the sign my sister made for us:)

My niece made this awesome sign for me as I crossed the finish line.

And friends, I am here to say that I did indeed cross the finish line! Not only did I run the whole thing, I beat the time I was striving for! By a LONG shot! Was the race hard? Yeah it was very mentally challenging. It was cold and I was tired from waking up at 4 in the morning, but worth every stride! I have really never felt so great! I am still on the running high!
So here are my race stats:
Time: 31:43 WAY better than I expected!
Place Overall: 236/523
Place Women only: 111/328
Place in my Age Bracket: 50/115
So what am I doing now, you might ask? Nursing a busted muscle. I over exerted my hip flexor, so I am icing it.
I better get better soon because.....
Disneyland Half Marathon Training starts TOMORROW!
